    Description

Up for your consideration is a set of 6 reproduction M1911 .45 ACP 50 round ammunition cartons, with FRANKFORD ARSENAL (FA), early EVANSVILLE-CHRYSLER (EC), WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS (WRA), REMINGTON ARMS COMPANY (RA), late EVANSVILLE-CHRYSLER (EC) and WESTERN CARTRIDGE COMPANY (WCC) labels.
During the 1930s, Frankford Arsenal was the only producer of military small arms ammunition. By 1940 it was obvious that Frankford would not be able to supply adequate quantities of ammunition should the U.S. get drawn into the war. The first contract to build up the stock of Cal. .45 Ball M1911 ammunition was given to Western Cartridge Company in October 1940 for 50 million rounds. This was followed by a contract to Remington Arms Company for 71 million rounds. In 1941 plans were made to open additional production facilities, which then became a priority after December 7th, 1941. The new Chrysler Corporation plant at Evansville, Indiana was opened , and the first lot of ammunition was completed during July 1942. Between July 1942 and the spring of 1944, Evansville produced more than 3.26 billion cartridges - about 96% of all the .45 ACP ammunition produced in the United States.  Evansville also developed the now-famous "spam can" for long-term weatherproof storage of small arms ammunition. The repack date on late-war cartons was added when the rounds were sealed in the cans at the Evansville plant. Winchester was used to supplement the small arms ammunition supply, while producing the M1 Carbine and M1 Garand. By 1944, most Cal. .45 Ball production was drastically reduced due to lower demand, but by the end of the war over four billion rounds had been made.
Each "Buy It Now" single purchase is for 6 unassembled cartons with one of each early Frankford Arsenal label, mid-war Evansville-Chrysler label, late-war Winchester Repeating Arms label, late-war Remington Arms Company label, late-war Evansville-Chrysler repacked lot label, and late-war Western Cartridge Company label. The lot number is hand stamped on the lid prior to shipping, either matching my original boxes, or if you prefer, I can match the lot number of a spam can or crate that you may have. The cartons will be shipped flat, with assembly instructions, and the shipping is free within the U.S. I had a lot of these made, so if you want multiple sets, just change the auction quantity before you click on the "Buy It Now" button. If you want all one label, leave me a note during checkout or send me an email.
